Public Records Request
Public Records FAQ
What is a public record?
A public record is any documentation that regardless of physical form is made or received in connection with official business by any public agency in the State of Florida. Public records can be inspected and copied by anyone who desires to do so, unless the particular record is made exempt or confidential by state law.

Are there any records that cannot be disclosed upon request?
Any records that are considered confidential from disclosure in accordance with Florida law cannot be disclosed. Other records that are exempt from disclosure may not be disclosed at the discretion of the agency holding the records. A requestor will be made aware of the statutory basis on which they are denied access to a confidential or exempt record.
If I don’t know what I’m looking for, can you make a record for me?
No, we cannot create a record to be inspected or copied. Many of our records are available on the ACPA website.
Is there a cost for requesting records?
Many records are provided at no cost. In some instances, there is a cost. If a records request requires extensive use of information technology resources or extensive clerical or supervisory assistance by personnel of the agency involved, or both, Florida law allows for the imposition of a special service charge to be paid by the requestor. If there is a cost associated with a request, the requestor will be made aware of the estimated cost before we search for the records. We will refund the excess payment if the actual cost of the search is less.
How can I request public records at the lowest possible cost?
Being specific about exactly what records you’d like can reduce the number of resources needed to fulfill the request.
How long will it take to receive the records I’ve requested?
It depends on the scope of your request. We will acknowledge receipt of your request. Once we have analyzed your request and received any necessary payment, we will inform you that we are working on it, and you will receive updates when they come.
